Op-ed (in tweet form): Happy #4thOfJuly to states that practice liberty. #USA ranks 15th in freedom, and will keep falling if the fruitcakes (AL, AR, ID, KY, LA, MS, MO, ND, OK, SD, TN, TX, UT, WY) with trigger laws use tax dollars (even though they worship small government) to promote their inner Taliban.

The ancient land-locked country pivotal to Iran's international standing

We often hear disdain over Iran's growing influence in the Middle East. Time for an alternative view-point, one that might challenge your preconceptions.

Of the two main powers in the Middle East, only one has protected and allowed a minority to thrive for well over 500 years - any takers on who it might be? Sorry to disappoint you all, but it's Iran! The aforementioned minority is the Armenian people, and for those that like their trivia - Armenia was the first country to adopt Christianity (as their state religion in 301 AD).

There is also the question of economic viability. Armenia is sandwiched between 4 countries, two of which (Azerbaijan and Turkey) it has closed borders with. The only options as its gateways to Europe and Asia are through Georgia and Iran respectively. Iran has been the most consistent neighbor in regards to bilateral trade, all the more impressive as both countries have faced economic strangulation. If Iran is given more freedom to participate in global trade, the trickle down effect to Armenia will be invaluable.

Time and again Western leaders preach Judeo-Christian values, but that doesn't stop them from seeking undesirable allies for economic or military needs. The West has far worse friends in the world than Iran, but due to the ignorance and stereotypes from mainstream media, all we keep getting is the same old rhetoric. Next time you hear 'expert' commentary on Saudi Arabia being our best bet in the region, just remember, that there is an 'evil' Mid-East power standing side-by-side with an ancient Christian civilization.
